Artist Spotlight: Pamela Wingard

Meet the Artist
Meet Pamela Wingard, a North Carolina-based painter whose expressive coastal scenes capture the color and energy of the places she loves most. Pamela has been creating art for most of her life, but she’s been painting seriously for about 20 years.
“I’ve always been creative,” she says. “I started college as an art major but finished with a business degree because I wasn’t sure how to make a living as an artist. I came back to painting later in life because I realized how much joy it brought me, and how much calmer and happier I felt when I was creating.”
Her work is filled with that same joy. Whether she’s painting a marsh at sunset or a simple shoreline view, each piece reflects her connection to color, movement, and the coast.

Artistic Style & Inspiration
Pamela describes her style as expressive and painterly. Her work often begins with loose brushstrokes and builds into layers of color and texture. Inspiration comes naturally from being outdoors, especially at the beaches and marshes near her home.
“I’m also inspired by travel and seeing new places,” she says. “I never get tired of painting coastal scenes. The view may change, but the feeling is always the same. It’s peaceful, bright, and alive.”

The Role of Place in Her Art
For Pamela, the coast is more than a subject, it’s a source of renewal. “I never get tired of painting marshes and beaches,” she shares. “My color palette changes a lot because I’m drawn to different tones depending on my mood, but my subject matter almost always comes back to the water.”
Her paintings capture that variety, from soft tidal reflections to bold skies filled with movement. No matter the palette, her work always feels like a moment spent outside, soaking in salt air and sunshine.

A Favorite Piece or Series
One of Pamela’s favorite collections is called Healing Waters. “It feels the most true to who I am as an artist,” she says. “I used to think, ‘everyone paints marshes,’ but then I realized I’m drawn to them for a reason. I decided to make them my own.”
Her loose, expressive brushstrokes and bold outlines give her marsh scenes an abstract quality while still feeling familiar and real. “They remind me that you don’t have to paint something perfectly for it to feel right.”

What’s New
Pamela is currently working on a new collection of small works on paper titled If I Can Dream. Each piece is inspired by marshes and coastal landscapes but reimagined through a looser, more playful approach.
“I don’t paint on paper very often, but it gives me the freedom to experiment,” she says. “These smaller works are all about exploring color and movement in a different way.”
