Meet the Artists: Conversations with the Artists Behind the Canvas
Share
At The Green Room at 831, each collection is more than a curated selection of beautiful works — it’s a celebration of the artists who bring coastal stories to life, brushstroke by brushstroke. For our debut Summer by the Sea collection, we invited five incredible artists to share the heart behind their work.
From tranquil marshlands in Florida to nostalgic beach scenes from the Northeast, these artists invite us into their memories, their process, and the quiet inspiration that flows from coastlines near and far. Get to know the creatives behind the canvas in their own words.
Sarah Court
New Jersey-based Painter of Memory and Mood
Sarah Court paints what she knows — places that have shaped her and moments that feel suspended in time. Her featured works in this collection are all rooted in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, captured during the magical transition from spring to summer. “There’s a sense of anticipation and excitement behind all of them,” she says.
Drawn to the coastlines of New Jersey and Maine, Sarah works intuitively, often from her own photos, painting quickly and energetically to preserve the life of each piece. “I want to avoid overworking a painting to the point of it losing its spark.” Her seascapes are love letters to her summers in Maine — full of movement, color, and reverence for the ocean’s ever-changing light.

Kim Daw
Soulful Coastal Expressionist
Kim Daw’s work is born from deep peace — the kind you find surrounded by ocean air, nature’s textures, and soft music in a quiet studio. This coastal collection was created after a trip to Hawaii, and the joy of that journey radiates from every canvas.
“I hope people who connect with my art feel the peace I feel while creating it,” she says. “Each piece is a part of me.” Her creative process is ritualistic and gentle, with wind chimes or candles setting the tone as she paints. Whether in a mountain meadow or near the waves, Kim’s art captures nature’s healing presence and the soulful connection between artist and place.

Pamela Wingard
Traveler, Thinker, Joy-Bringer
Inspired by travel and time spent outdoors, Pam Wingard brings a sense of place and serenity to everything she paints. Though she began in the Midwest, her life near the Carolina coast has shaped her love for painting water, skies, and scenes of peaceful escape.
Pam’s creative process starts well before the brush hits canvas. She sketches, plays with color using markers and pencils, and builds out cohesive collections that reflect a mood or location. “I love that art brings joy,” she says. “When someone sees a painting and feels something — a memory, a moment — it connects us.”

Diane Larson
Imaginative Coastal Dreamscapes from Florida
For Diane Larson, inspiration is everywhere — in the clouds, waves, and marsh birds of her daily life along Florida’s coast. She rarely paints from photos, instead beginning with a blank canvas, a warm-toned wash, and an open imagination.
As she wipes the canvas, a form appears — “perhaps a wave or a lagoon,” she says — and from there, the painting begins to take shape. Her work is fluid, intuitive, and deeply rooted in a lifetime spent near the sea. “I hope my work conjures up a good memory,” she shares, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the familiar warmth of sunlit water and sky.

Heather Nagy
Modern Impressionist with a Passion for Beauty and Light
Heather Nagy’s paintings are full of light — not just visually, but emotionally. “So many circumstances in our lives are out of our control,” she says. “But we can choose what we focus on.” For Heather, painting is therapy, a way of reclaiming beauty and joy through vibrant, intentional brushwork.
Her work spans cityscapes, beaches, and tropical botanicals, often born from hundreds of photos she takes while traveling. Working in bold acrylics over a bright magenta underwash, her pieces feel fresh, modern, and deeply personal. “I hope my art reminds people to notice the beauty around them, even in small moments.”
